Quick Picks

Alison Goldfrapp

Goldfrapp's fourth album, Seventh Tree, was released in the United States on February 26, 2008.  With this newest release, Goldfrapp has returend to its roots, as this album is more similar in sound to Felt Mountain than the synth rock sound of Black Cherry and Supernature.  As someone who didn't catch the Goldfrapp wave until Black Cherry, it took me a while to appreciate Felt Mountain, and the same can be said with Seventh Tree.  At first listen I have to admit I was pretty disappointed with the album, but now I love it.  Alison's soothing, operatic vocals take the forefront and complement the stripped down, laid back sound to perfection.

In 2003, Goldfrapp released their second album, Black Cherry, which should be on the top of many critic's "Best Of..." lists.  The group is not afraid to take chances, as the album is quite a departure from their first release, Felt Mountain.  That said, not since Dido's debut, No Angel, have I heard an album where I was taken by every song.  Granted, it took more than one listen, but spend some time with it and you'll fall in love.  Lead singer Alison Goldfrapp sings effortlessly with a sensuality that is very soothing.

Visit Goldfrapp's official webpage at www.goldfrapp.co.uk to learn more about the group.  If you would like to become a member of Goldfrapp's official online team, where you can download photos, ringtones and even win a few prize packs, go to M80 Teams.

A must-have for any Goldfrapp fan is the "Beautiful Electric" 2-disc DVD.  Disc One is a concert filmed at Somerset House plus a documentary, while Disc Two features a show filmed at Shepherds Bush Empire and a second documentary.  Vidcaps from the DVD are on the Vidcap Page.
